Sound

Why the design works

The drivers, cabinet and crossover are designed to work together, then checked with measurements.

Emanate 6 Speaker Kit 1 2 4
1

Custom waveguide

Helps the tweeter spread sound smoothly into the room.

2

6-inch woofer

Gives the larger cabinet fuller bass and more output than Emanate 4.

3

Passive crossover

Balances the woofer and tweeter so the speaker works with most stereo amplifiers.

4

Ported cabinet

Adds low-end weight from the larger bookshelf enclosure.

Measurements

Measured, so you're not guessing

Frequency response, impedance and directivity measurements show how the finished speaker behaves.

Smooth response, amplifier-friendly impedance and controlled off-axis behaviour, measured on the finished speaker.

  • Smooth on-axis response
  • Amplifier-friendly impedance
  • Controlled off-axis behaviour

Quick answers before you commit to the build.

Question Is this a good first speaker build?
Yes. It is designed for people who are comfortable with 3D printing and want a guided first proper speaker build.
Question Which file version should I use?
Use the single-piece cabinet files if your printer has the required build volume. Use the split files if your printer is smaller. Both versions are included.
Question Do I need to know how to solder?
You do need to solder, but prior experience is not required. The crossover and wiring are shown step by step.
Question Do I need a subwoofer?
No. Emanate 6 is the fuller bookshelf option in the range. Add a subwoofer if you want deeper bass or are building a home theatre system.
Question Do I need woodworking tools?
No. The cabinets are 3D printed and assembled with common tools.
Question What amplifier should I use?
Use a standard stereo amplifier or AV receiver with speaker-level outputs. The amplifier is not included.
